Blue Dog Bakery is a dog food and treat company founded in 1998 with a mission to create healthy, all-natural products for adventurous pups while appealing to their health-conscious owners. With a strong emphasis on quality and transparency, every product is non-GMO, made in the USA, and crafted without artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. They are dedicated to building trust with pet parents by clearly communicating ingredients and ensuring they know exactly what goes into each product. This project focused on translating those values into a distinctive packaging design system that stands out against competitors, using bold visuals and clear product differentiation to capture attention on the shelf while reinforcing the brand’s commitment to quality and care.

Discovery

My inspiration for my moodboard was hiking trails and campsites. I chose this direction hoping to appeal to active pet parents that are looking for heathy treats and food with all-natural ingredients for their furry family members.

Digital Drafts

I decided to move forward with concepts that allowed for using a small graphic rather than purely type-focused designs. I used colors that are both earthy and eye-catching to help the packaging stand out against competitors.

First Round

After receiving feedback, I decided to move forward with my first design with some minor adjustments, such as making the accent color of the size variations consistent across all elements. Feedback I received after this draft led me to the final concept — making the design less typographically focused and making the size variations more obvious.
